Hello there... Short note to ask if you can help re: geneaology data ,(1) Henry Yearsley 1500/1800+- as mentioned in History Co. of Gloucester, by Rudge 1803. Apparantly Henry was Forester in Fee in his day. I'm also led to believe that Henry served The Earl of Warwick, who ever that was at the time.
(2) Sir Richard Yearsley..(d) 1464 Rector of Scalton
(3) Franciscus Yearsley, buried at Ruardean, 11,Sept.1616

Any information or help in establishing a trace of this early family history would be gratefully appreciated.I thank you in advance for help you can provide.

I am trying to find the origins of my g-g-grandfather, William COOKE (c.1800-1880?), who at his marriage in 1824 was described as being of Lidbrook, Glocestershire. That marriage was to Eliza Rosser, of Hereford, whose sister Anne Elizabeth was married to the then Viscount Lascelles, and took place at St James's Westminster. A timber merchant, Cooke later fell on hard times. His posh relations died, and in 1838 in Hereford, he was sentenced to transportation for forging bills to the value of £1500. In sentencing him the judge made reference to his social standing and education, so he should be traceable somewhere. William named his sons Edward, William Montague Lascelles, Thomas Morse and John Morse. I understand that Cooke was a prominent name in the Forest of Dean in the 17th century. Can anyone help?

Greetings from the Colonies. We are descendants of Charles Hyett, who emigrated circa. 1660 to Virginia/Maryland. We believe this Charles, who married Sarah Tewksbury, to be the son of Charles Hyett who married Mary Preston in the church at Chipping Norton. We believe this Charles to be a descendant of James Hyett, Constable of St. Briavel's (1471 - 1483.) My parents, James and Margaret Hyatt visited the Castle in Nov. 1996. Much remains to be documented. Our regards to all who share in our name and common heritage. Hope to visit someday. We would love to hear from anyone with a common interest or connections.

I am looking for information on my grandfather and his relatives from the locations around Bream and Newland and Coleford. His name was Richard William Jones born March 4, 1879. He moved to the USA in 1883. His parents were William Jones (b. 1845) and Eliza Morgan Morgan Jones b.1846). My great grandmother Eliza, whose maiden name was Morgan, was married to a Henry Morgan who died.

Sisters and brothers to my grandfather, Richard William Jones were--
Sister: Elizabeth Maud Jones b. either Nov. 21, 1880 or Oct. 21, 1881 (I think the latter may be right) in Bream Newland R.S.D.
1/2 Brothers and Sisters - all Morgans were Emma, Fanny, Harry, Elizabeth (b. June 26, 1868 or 69), and Amy.

Emma and Fanny Morgan stayed in England while the others came to the USA in 1883.

I am seeking information regarding my Dean/Daines/Daynes
ancestry. I have traced my family history from our current
Dean family, to Abraham Dains, reportedly b. 1640 in Devon,
England. He is reported to have arrived at Casco, Maine about
1663, stayed one winter, and moved to Norwich, Connecticutt
about 1664. He married Sarah Peake, who bore him 6 children.
I have been unable to find anything concerning his parents or
ancestors, although I have been getting bits and pieces of
information which leads me to believe our surnames, spelled
various ways over the generations, derived from the ancient
de Dene and Denne familys who arrived about 950 Ad with the
Norman invasion and William the Conqueror. If you know of
anyone who can help me with my quest, I would be deeply
appreciative. Sincerely, Robert O. Dean

Im Trying to find info on my family tree

Great to find such an interesting page on the web.

I was researching my family history when I lived clos by in Sheepscombe Gloucestershire inspired by my Uncle from America.
Unfortunately we have become stuck. We have traced back to the Forest of Dean.

We are trying to seek out Edward Aston born approx. 1766, Hewelsfield, Forest of Dean. Married 2 July 1799, Hewelsfield to Jane Phillips (born 5 Jan 1777, Mitchelroy, Trelleck, Monmouth died 1866, buried 28 May 1866, Hewelsfield Parish Church).
Edward and Jane are buried in the Parish Church at Hewelsfield but we cannot establish the place of birth. According to the gravestone Edward died 15/2/1853, age 87.

Can anyone assist with a link?

I am beginning to think that my great-grandfather's forebears came from the Forest of Dean. He was Charles Edwin Worgan, born in Bristol, in around 1865, of Gloucestershire born parents. My father says his ancestors were watermen on the Wye. Any ideas? Give me a few more months to research, and I will probably be able to answer that question myself, and also perhaps assist any other Worgan researchers.

Bunny is decended from Milson Vaughan and Sarah Elizebeth
Waddley both of Ruardean, their son Ralph emigrated to
America via Canada in the early part of the 1800's. Very
little is known of Milson and Sarah or their ancestors in
this part of the world. They are buried in the cemetary at
St. John the Baptist Church in Ruardean. Any information
concerning them or their predecesors would be greatly
apprecieated. Thank you so much for having done what has
been done in keeping and preserving those records.

I am researching my paternal family history and have traced direct lineage to one Sir William Stroud... The info I have suggests that either in 1642 he and 4 others upset King Charles I and the King demanded they be turned over. Both houses of Parliment refused and William returned home to Stroud, near Gloucester for a shrot stay before leaving for America. My family from around your general area. James Edward Slade b.1881 in Penarth, Glamorgan is one. I think his dad , James also, lived and wprked in Hampshire/Dorset area as a gardener ( at Broadlands at one time).
Bertram Edward Slade b.1913 in Talgarth, near Welsh Border, he married a girl from Aberavon or Merthyr Tydfil called Nancy Crocker. He had several sisters, Mary who lives in Hereford, Leila, don't know and someone who lived in Hampshire.
Don't know if any of this is of use to you but thought I'd throw it into the pot for you - I can dig more details out if you need them on some of the characters mentioned although I don't know if the James's had brothers or sisters.

I am searching for William Henry Harrison Dean and Margaret Jane
Westmoreland. They both were born about 1739. My research leads me to
believe they left Dean, England and arrived in America about 1760. They
were married in England. My resources tell me that they may have come
from The Forest of Dean. I have located information at The College of
William & Mary on The Laws and Customs of the Miners in The Forrest of
Dean. I was told that their Surname is Harrison and they assumed the
Dean name after arriving in America.

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

David-- I visited your page a few days ago. Thank you for the article on the Parish Church.

I would still be interested in knowing if you know of any reference to Ruardean that is older than the Domesday Book.

The order of accession of Hathaway Manor after the Hathaways is : - Walwyn, Baynham, Vaugh.

The Hathaway coat-of-arms appeared in the Parish Church before the Vaughns. ( the hunting horn that sits atop a chimney of St. Briavels Castle).

If you would care for a copy of the peerage line I would be happy to send it by snail mail.

I am looking for any information on Albert and Jane Mayo. I have a marriage
certificate from his son Cecil and Margery Parslow and the address was West of
Severn. I have been working on this just foe a short time but would like some
information if you can help me. Or if you can give me some help where to look for
more information. Your information here has been very interesting to me and I have
enjoyed it very much. Hope to hear from you. Thank you for your time.

William Kingston 1552-1636 of the Manor Park, Gloucestershire
son of Sir William Kingston of Kingston Hall .
Where is Kingston Hall and the Manor Park?
Sir William Kingston, the later immigrated to area of Bantry Bay, ireland in 1626.
This family may be the ancestors of my GGG grandfather
William Kingston of Ardnagashel, Bantry Bay, Ireland
b. circa 1785.
Where can I find out about Kingston surname in the area
in the 16th and 17th century?
Please contact me if you can

KEAR FAMILY LINE:

Was wondering if anyone has been in contact with a Bill NASH from Sydney Australia? I searched the Archived Messages and saw that he wrote a message in 1998 and of course his e-mail address does not exist anymore.
