I never received my activation e-mail

It could be that you made a slight error when you typed your e-mail address.

Our registration program creates the e-mail immediately and it should get to you quickly. Give it at least a few hours before you decide it's not going to get to you.

If you waited a while and still didn't receive the activation e-mail, chances are your spam system, or that of your ISP is blocking the verification e-mail our system sends to you.

If your e-mail program moves spam e-mails to a folder other than your inbox, check there first. Many programs do this - giving you an opportunity to recover 'false positives' and 'whitelist' the address for future use.

Check your spam system documentation, or help system with your ISP. You need to allow mail from the forest-of-dean.net to get through.

If eventually you receive the e-mail and you have not clicked on the activation code link within 24 hours of first registering for an account, the activation code will have expired and you will have to do a new registration.

If after taking all steps that are suggested above, you have still not resolved your problem, please go to the Contact Us page on the Web site and Use the "Help and Support - Parish Records and Forum" contact form and we will sort something out for you.

When using the Support contact form make sure you make a note of the ticket number which you will see once your request is completed.

If we can't reach you by email we won't be able to tell you that we can't reach you and you will need this ticket number to go back to the form and view our reply.

I'm having trouble logging in!

The most likely reasons for this is that you entered an incorrect username or password.

Your password is case sensitive, you must use the proper case and make sure you have no additinal spaces anywhere or you will be unable to log in. Case sensitive means that upper and lower case letters are looked at as being different. For example if your password includes the letter "c" and you type it as "C" it will not be accepted as being correct.

Ensure that your browser supports cookies; if so, check the security level you are using. High levels of security restriction in certain browsers will automatically reject cookies. In order to use the key features of these forums, you'll need to accept cookies.

If you have registered previously but have not logged-in durung the past 6 months your account will automatically have expired and been deleted in order to keep the user database up-to-date.

You can of course do a new registration if you wish to use the facilities of the membership again.

Additionally, with regards to logging in, sometimes a cookie can get corrupted which can cause problems, you will need to delete the cookies stored in your browser and restart your computer before attempting to log in again.

If you continue to have problems, go to the Lost Password link. Follow the instructions and a new Password will be generated and e-mailed to you together with your current Username.

Challenge-response e-mail

If you're using a challenge-response system and you want to receive mail from this Web site then please be a good Internet citizen and make sure you add forest-of-dean.net as a verified source.

We will not answer any challenges generated in response to mail that has been sent from forest-of-dean.net. Thus, if you're using a challenge-response system and not receiving mail from us, you'll need to figure that out on your own.

In short, do what you feel is necessary to control your spam problem, but remember that it's your responsibility to make it possible for people to send you email that you request.

Why don't you answer my emails?

We always answer your emails by email. If you send us an email with a wrong return email address you won't be able to receive an answer from us!

If you, or your email client, or your email server, or your ISP has a misconfigured anti-spam filter you might not be able to receive an answer from us!

If you, or your email client, or your email server, or your ISP requires a manual authentication from us to be able to send you an email you might not receive an answer from us!

If your email box is full you won't be able to receive an answer from us! So in conclusion make sure that your email address is simply reachable.

If we can't reach you by email we won't be able to tell you that we can't reach you; it's very frustrating for you and for us! If you don't receive an answer from us after one week, use another email address so that we can contact you, otherwise you'll think that we ignore your emails although we strongly try to answer them!

The problems mentioned here above occur in particular with RoadRunner, Prodigy, Earthlink, SBCGlobal, Pacbell, AOL and similar other protected email addresses. (If you experience a problem you can try to use Free, Yahoo or Hotmail email addresses which work correctly.)
