Alfred John SYNER b.1864

Has anyone any information on the above person?

My research shows him on the 1871 census living in Newport with his parents Alfred b.1841, mother b.1842, brother Richard W b.1866 & sister Florance b.1868
I also know he married Hannah Weston in Newport in 1883 and together they had 3 children, John E b.1884, Mary Hannah b.1885 & Florence A b.1888. In 1891 Census Hannah is registered as a widow.
There is anecdotal evidence to show that the place of his death may have been Buenos Aires.

Any further clues out there?

Migration from Glamorgan to Clowerwall 1700

Francis Wyndham of Clowerwall (Clowerwall) supported the donation of books to support clergy and teachers in Cowbridge, Glamorgan in 1711.

I believe my family Jenkins moved from Llanblethian very close to Cowbridge in Glamorgan about 1700.

Does anyone have any other evidence to support my theory?

Emigration around 1888/1889

I'm discovering that a number of my extended family emigrated to the US in the 1888/1889 timeframe. These were not adventure-seeking twenty-somethings, but parents in their forties and fifties with their whole families.

I was wondering whether there was any particular economic downturn in the Forest around that time?

Hyatt surname to Hyatt Cox, can anyone help

while researching our family history we find that our great great great grandfarther on parish records was named john hyatt however on some censors record he is named cox. Was this common this a common practise of changing surnames as we find that there are lot of hyatt and cox on the records.

John Hyatt born in The Hayes near viney hill 1822 and he married Hannah Charles who born in 1824. Both married in 1950. The only way i can link the cox to the surname is that a john cox and elizeberth cox lived at the hays around the same time as John Hyatt. The Hayes was a small holding below the Hayes Wood at Vinney Hill.

In the 1841 he names himsef as John Hyatt and in the 1861 censors he is called John Hyatt Cox. Can anyone share any liget on this please.

Or if you are related please contact me
Regards

Edward Price and Sarah Hopkins

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be good enough to help me please? I have been researching my own family history since the 1990's and recently I have hit a few brick walls. So, in the meantime an elderly lady has asked me to hlp her with her family history. She was born in 1937 Christina Price her father was Arthur Henry Price born 11th Aug 1893 Lydney Gloucs, he married Bridie O'Flaherty in Paddington London. Arthur was the son of Edward Price born 1858 Alvington & Sarah Hopkins, she was born 1865 Lydney Gloucs. Her father was John Hopkins but had died before 1884. John Hopkins was the son of Thomas Hopkins & Sarah.I did notice a few people were on here who are related to Sarah and I was wondering if any of you could please help me to help Christina with her family.
It looks like some of you might be related to Christina, the names I saw were jhopkins,Paul Andrews,& Alan Isaac.
I would appreciate any help please. If you have any reports etc or other information I can then pass this on.
Hope the above makes sense.
Thank you

Can someone help please. Im looking for the birth certificate for William Meek born 1881. Born to Caroline Meek at Factory Row, Cinderford, he is shown as 2 months old in the 1881 census. I cannot find his name in the register of births for the first or second quarter of 1881 or even the 4th quarter of 1880. I have followed the other William Meeks without success.

I am looking for information on Charles Henry Manns who was born on 1st June 1878 in Kempley his mother was Sarah but his father is not given on his baptism or on birth certificate.

I have found a Sarah Ann Manns born 1857 (father William and Mother Ellen)who is the correct age to have had a child in 1878.

She married William Hodges in 1880 and according to the 1881 census she had a son called Charles Hodges but there is no record of his birth.

Could this Charles actually be Charles Manns and is there any way of proving it ?

Unhappily everything I thought I knew about Albert Smith with the exception of his marriage to Rhoda Minnie Goode in 1888, the birth of their daughter Olive Elizabeth Smith in 1888 and his death in Runcorn Cheshire in 1891 are now proving to be incorrect.

daughter Stella May aged approx 4 and his wife Anne Elizabeth Hunt (1871-1919).

The photo was taken outside his house in Cinderford, possibly it is at
9 Commercial Road.

Taken c1909, as Stella was born 1905 and she looks about 4yrs old in the picture.

George B Rickards is the son of Elijah Barnard Rickards and Martha Fletcher and
my Great Grandmother Annie Rickard's, brother.

Richard Heighway and Mary Preest

Richard Tilsley Highway (or Heighway) married Mary Preest on 25 April 1848 at Newland. She stated she was ‘of full age’ and the daughter of Richard Preest (labourer).
I have tracked Richard and Mary Heighway through the census records available, and she appears to have been born around 1823/24. In most census returns her birthplace is given as West Dean, but in 1881 it gives her birthplace as Ellwood. I cannot trace a baptism for her.
I think she is the daughter of Richard Preest and Anne Beach.
Richard and Anne married in 1821, but Anne died in August 1824 (aged 33). Richard remarried Mary Kear in 1832 and had two sons William in 1833 and Richard in 1836. Richard, Mary and their sons were living at Ellwood, Bream in 1841. (Whilst Mary Preest, aged 17, was living in Lydney with Ann Morgan, a school mistress.)
I have found the National Probate Calendar entry for Richard Preest’s Will in 1868. It lists the executors as William (his) son (Richard Jnr had died in 1863) and Richard Heighway Shopkeeper.
Can anyone help me prove (or disprove) that Richard Heighway was Richard Preest’s son in law?
Thanks
Mary
